Salesforce Lightning vs Classic

Salesforce Lightning vs Classic

Whenever we talk about customer relationship management software, Salesforce is one of the well-known and biggest names. That is because of its app marketplace, customizability, and its ease of use. Recently Salesforce has taken the customizability one step ahead by introducing two user interface options to the customers: Salesforce Lightning & Salesforce Classic.

What is Salesforce Lightning?

As we are talking about Salesforce Lightning as a user interface, but actually it is much more than that. It is a framework that developers use to develop different Salesforce apps. It makes third-party integrations easier, so you can build the custom components for the CRM platform’s web interface. The Lightning UI is also a modern web user interface with icons, easy-to-read text, and graphics for your business. Salesforce lightning shows you the charts and lists to give you an overview of your business’s current state at-a-glance.

What is Salesforce Classic?

Before the Lightning release, Salesforce Classic was used as the interface for the CRM platform. Salesforce Classic is not a modern web user interface like lightning, but it is very text-centric with very little involvement of graphics and icons. Even the graphics that exist are very typical and display in less resolution.

In Salesforce Classic, the text is so small by default and on a modern monitor, there is a massive amount of space that it usually looks way confined and sometimes far too spread out. It becomes way clucky for navigation at times and thus not easy to absorb information quickly in the Classic interface.

Salesforce Lightning vs Classic:

If you have Salesforce veterans in your teams, then they must be familiar with the Salesforce Classic. That could bring an advantage if you are returning to Salesforce. But that will be for short term as Lightning is the ultimate platform with the most active support and that needs to be used. If you are using Classic, Salesforce will automatically shift you to Lightning after a few weeks.

The Lightning interface is much faster, comprehensive, and considered as the future of Salesforce. On the other side, Classic can be used by the teams who are returning to Salesforce or those who are not ready to move yet. If you are choosing Classic then you must be a little conscious about it as Salesforce has yet to announce the end date for Classic support.

There are some sources telling that Classic will remain there for years, as Salesforce continues support for large enterprises and closes the existing feature gaps. It could create problems for the teams working on Classic and after some years they have to migrate to a new platform.

New users should go with Lightning unless they find any clear feature advantage with the Classic. Especially if your company is new to Salesforce, then lightning should be the priority.
