Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015 Upgrade Path
We’ve been repeatedly asked to write about Microsoft dynamics CRM upgrade path so here we go.
As per official Microsoft sources the only supported upgrade path to Microsoft dynamics CRM 2015 is through Microsoft dynamics CRM 2013 service pack 1 (SP1). The direct upgrade path from CRM 2011 to 2015 is not supported so you have to have to first upgrade to CRM 2013 in order to upgrade to the newer versions. However the server roles of Microsoft dynamics CRM 2013 are incompatible for the deployment of Microsoft dynamics CRM 2015 version which means that upgrading the first Microsoft dynamics CRM 2013 server will cause the other Microsoft dynamics CRM 2013 servers in the deployment to become disabled. But the corresponding servers will be enabled with the upgrade of each server.
You can choose any order for the upgrade of roles and servers of your CRM but for complete functionality they all have to be upgraded. There are certain prerequisites for the upgrade and you have to make sure that you have the supported configuration for your software environment. The basic and the most important prerequisites are as under:
Processor: The minimum requirement for the processor is x64 architecture or compatible dual core 1.6 GHz processor but the recommended processor is quadcore x64 architecture 2GHz CPU or higher such as AMD Opteron or Intel Xeon systems.
Memory: You need a minimum 2GB RAM for the upgrade however 8GB RAM or more is recommended.
Hard disk: The minimum requirement is 10 GB free hard disk space but 40GB or more available space is recommended.
Microsoft SQL server hardware requirements:
Processor: You need minimum x64 architecture or compatible dual core 1.6 GHz processor but the recommended processor is quadcore x64 architecture 2GHz CPU or higher such as AMD Opteron or Intel Xeon systems.
Memory: A 4GB RAM would support the upgrade but 16GB or more is recommended.
Hard disk: SAS RAID 5 or RAID 10 hard disk array should be good enough.
Along with the above prerequisite you must keep in mind that Microsoft dynamics CRM 2015 can only be installed on Windows server 2012 64-bit based computers.
